When people first grab Phasmophobia, the question always pops up: is Phasmophobia crossplay? The game blew up because of how good it feels in co-op. Hunting ghosts alone? Boring. Doing it with friends? Chaos. Screaming, running, hiding in closets. That’s the fun.
But here’s the catch. Not everyone is playing on the same thing. Some use VR. Others stick with keyboard and mouse. A lot are waiting on console. So the big deal is: can you actually play together no matter the device?
That’s what this piece is about. And I’m writing it from experience. I’ve been on Phasmophobia since the early days, when the ghost AI was dumb and the game looked rough. Over time, updates made it better, scarier, smoother. And the crossplay question keeps coming back, so let’s break it down.
What Crossplay Means in Phasmophobia
Crossplay is simple. You’re on PC. Your friend’s on Xbox. Another friend’s testing VR. If the game supports crossplay, all of you can join the same lobby. No limits.
Without crossplay? You’re stuck on your own platform. That’s the problem. Phasmophobia is meant for multiplayer, so platform walls can ruin the fun.
Phasmophobia Crossplay on PC and VR
PC and VR Work Together
The positive aspect of this is that Phasmophobia owners are allowed to play together with a VR user on a stipulated framework, without requiring extra arrangements. It is all-inclusive. I have hosted a few sessions with a VR user who is very vocal and animated and to which the other players are using a keyboard and it proceeds seamlessly.
Out of the available versions of the game, this is the most stable one in crossplay functionality. This is due to the fact that on PC and VR, players are practically operating on one integrated environment and there is no division of system versions as it is the case with consoles.

Is Phasmophobia Crossplay on Xbox and PC?
Here is where things begin to get complex. As of 2025, Phasmophobia is still slowly introducing console support. It is available to Xbox players, but the crossplay connection is still early in its development. PC players are not able to consistently connect to Xbox lobbies. However, that feature is in the process of development.
While it is true that some testing builds show promise with regard to crossplay between Xbox and PC, they still cannot be called reliably stable at this time.
Phasmophobia on PS5 and Crossplay Options
The devs announced console support back in 2023. But real support hit later. By 2025, the PS5 version exists. The big question: does it crossplay with PC and Xbox?
- PS5 crossplay with PC? Not stable yet.
- PS5 and Xbox? Same deal. The dev team has said it’s “planned” but slow.
So, PS5 players are still waiting for full crossplay integration.

Is Phasmophobia Crossplay with PS4?
No. The game never launched on PS4. The hardware just doesn’t cut it for the kind of ghost AI and lighting the devs keep improving. If you’re on PS4, you’re out of luck.
Cross-Platform vs Cross-Gen Play
A lot of people confuse these.
- Cross-Platform: playing across devices like PC, VR, Xbox, PS5.
- Cross-Gen: PS5 and PS4 together, or Xbox One with Xbox Series X.
Phasmophobia doesn’t support cross-gen because it skipped PS4 and older Xbox completely.
Phasmophobia Multiplayer Experience
The multiplayer is the heart of the game. You load into a house with 3-4 friends. You grab tools, thermometer, EMF reader, spirit box. And then you step inside.
Ghosts are unpredictable. They move objects. Cut the lights. Sometimes they rush you out of nowhere. The co-op screams are what make it legendary.
But all this fun is cut short if you can’t actually join your friends because of platform walls.
Phasmophobia Console Support and Updates
The console launch was messy. Delays. Patches. Crashes. But it’s running now. On Xbox Series X/S and PS5, the core ghost-hunting gameplay is intact. Cross-platform gaming, though? Still locked up.

Kinetic Games has confirmed they’re “working on wider crossplay.” The problem? Updates need to land at the same time on every platform. Console patches go through Sony and Microsoft checks. Steam doesn’t. That delay breaks sync.
I’ve sat through months where PC had a new ghost, and console didn’t. Makes it hard to sync lobbies.
Phasmophobia Cross Save and Compatibility
At this time, there is no cross-save functionality. If you change from PC to Xbox, you’ll be starting from scratch.
In terms of hardware, the game runs well enough on mid-range PCs, and most VR headsets, including the Oculus and Valve Index. For consoles, patches are still being rolled out to improve game optimization.

Latest Game Update in 2025: Any Crossplay News?
The 2025 update focused more on ghost behavior and maps. The devs did mention console crossplay as “in progress.” But no hard date.
If history tells us anything, it’ll roll out slowly. They polish features one at a time.
